About
Established in 2017 by designers Gabrielle Beswick and Andrew Beveridge, Fomu Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio based between Tasmania and Melbourne, Australia.
Working across furniture, lighting and objects, Fomu creates pieces that sit between art, design and architecture. The studio's practice explores how objects shape the rituals of everyday life, creating works that foster connection between people, spaces and the experience of living.
The name Fomu derives from the Japanese word for "form" (フォーム, fōmu), reflecting an ongoing interest in the relationship between material, structure and meaning.
Drawing from histories of domesticity, architecture and craft, Fomu designs objects that balance permanence with softness—works intended not only to function, but to be lived with over time. Through carefully considered proportions, material expression and refined detailing, each piece seeks to create atmosphere, memory and belonging within the home.
All Fomu works are designed and manufactured in Australia in collaboration with skilled local craftspeople and manufacturers. Sustainability is embedded throughout the studio's practice through the use of responsibly sourced materials, FSC-certified timbers, enduring construction methods and local production that supports Australian industry.
Fomu's work has been exhibited internationally and featured in publications including Vogue Living, Architectural Digest and Milk Decoration.
At its core, Fomu believes that the art of living is expressed through the objects we choose to surround ourselves with—objects that carry meaning, invite ritual and endure across generations.
